Mild Steel

Strength

4/5

Due to its low carbon contents, mild steel is strong. It is the preferred material of choice in the construction industry due to its versatility and strength.

Price

5/5

Cost effective and extremely common, mild steel is the go-to material of choice for most perforated metal applications.

Weather Resistance

2/5

Mild steel will rust when exposed to the elements. Combining mild steel with powdercoating will increase the weather resistance and help prevent rusting when exposed to moisture.

What is Mild Steel?

Mild steel, or plain carbon steel, is one of the most commonly used materials. Also known as low carbon steel, the amount of carbon found in mild steel is typically between 0.05% and 0.25%. The lower carbon levels mean mild steel is more ductile, machinable and weldable that other steels. This also means mild steel is perfect for perforating.

Carbon steel is available either cold rolled or hot rolled. Cold rolled mild steel is available between 0.9mm – 3mm thick and has a bright surface finish. Hot rolled material is available either with a pickled an oiled surface or a black surface finish and are used for thicknesses of 1.5mm or above.

What Thicknesses are Available?
